From Sunday 10 November 2024 onwards, village stewards will once again be helping to ensure safety and cleanliness in the village of Doel. On Sundays, they will be keeping an eye on the village between 11 am and 5.30 pm. After evaluation and on demand, this can be expanded.
From 2015 to 2022, MLSO had already deployed village stewards in the village of Doel to ensure safety and cleanliness. On Sundays and during holiday periods, as well as on other days when Doel was busy, they handed out leaflets to visitors to make them aware of the precarious situation in the village. When any crimes occurred, the police were notified. So following a gap of just under two years, the village stewards are now making another appearance in the village.
The other measures for protecting homes in Doel, such as the rental of metal panels by MLSO or the night-time surveillance of Doel by the Flemish Government, also remain in place.
Continuing demand for stewards
As the demand for flexibly deployable village stewards kept recurring, the Executive Board of MLSO decided to take on the practical organisation of village stewards once again.
Boudewijn Vlegels, Chairperson of MLSO:
"With Jean-Luc and Freddy, two familiar faces have returned to the village of Doel. I am glad that they once again want to take on this task. In fact, as village stewards, they are actively contributing towards improving the cleanliness of the village of Doel and the sense of security for its residents. Although the management of the heritage is no longer MLSO's responsibility, we have taken on the practical organisation of the village stewards in response to a request from Jan Blomme, the Alliance's impartial supervisor. After all, this can help to maintain normal conditions in Doel".
