This morning, the Minister of Energy, Mathieu Bihet, the Mayor of the municipality of Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht, Marc Van de Vijver, and the CEO of ENGIE Belgium, Vincent Verbeke, ceremonially broke ground for the construction of a new battery site in Kallo. The battery park should be active by the spring of 2027.

This is ENGIE's second large-scale battery project in Belgium and will be built on a site covering just under 2 hectares. The storage capacity of the 110 battery modules coming to Kallo will be equivalent to that of 80,000 home batteries. By storing excess renewable energy, the batteries will help optimise the use of wind and solar energy to meet demands from the grid.
