MLSO Internal sustainability policy
Sustainability is ingrained in the DNA of MLSO. Not only does MLSO have participating interests in ECLUSE and Wind aan de Stroom, but the organisation is also deploying its sustainability card for the Waasland Logistics Park (Verrebroek). In addition to its efforts in connection with mobility, nature and heritage, MLSO is continuing to make its internal operations more sustainable.
Voka Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship
In 2020, MLSO officially participated in the Voka Charter for Sustainable Entrepreneurship for the first time and has since achieved the designation VCDO Pioneer. Since 2025, MLSO no longer participates itself, but instead sits on the jury that reviews new VCDO application processes. A sustainable action plan is drawn up each year. Several of the actions MLSO initiated in recent years have since been embedded in its operations. The annual Port Clean Up campaign to remove litter in September is one such action.
Diversity Charter
In September 2020, MLSO signed the diversity charter of Voka Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland. By doing that, MLSO undertakes to pursue an active diversity policy: everyone who shows initiative will be given equal opportunities to take up a challenging job and an exciting and sustainable career, regardless of their gender, age, origin, skin colour, orientation or religious beliefs.
Social Economy
MLSO regularly calls on the services of social economy partners to carry out green works and maintenance, such as in the Waasland Logistics Park. MLSO also enlists the help of such partners to carry out operations to clean up fly-tipping in the port on the left bank of the Scheldt (Waaslandhaven). We are therefore not only committed to keeping the port on the left bank of the Scheldt clean, but we are also supporting the sustainable employment of vulnerable groups. MLSO is also playing its part in improving the labour market position of the long-term unemployed, for example.
Sustainable office building
When expanding and renovating the MLSO office building several years ago, MLSO chose sustainable materials and techniques. In the meantime, additional investments have also been made:
- the roof was equipped with solar panels;
- insect-friendly flowers and plants were chosen when redesigning the green areas around the office building;
- two insect hotels and a butterfly hotel were installed in the garden.
